The Weekend Distil - The Art of Communication

The photo in this post was taken in Toronto, at Jibestream, were local mixed-media artist Rob Ciancamerla unveiled a piece of artwork that represents the company's brand and the nautical story behind the brand. We all interpret messages differently, which brings me to my observation for the week.

This week a business owner I work with looked at me rather exasperated and asked: " Why don't my employees get it?" 

I'm of the belief that good communication is essential to business success. At the most basic level, employees who don't know what's expected of them seldom perform to their potential. And policies and procedures aren't a substitution for communication. Leaders need to constantly engage employees in a constructive dialogue – listening to their perspective, interpreting their message, and coaching them to do their job well.
